Breaking Free of Fear and Anxiety
Our FOCUS will determine whether we live in fear and anxiety or in peace and security.
I thought I'd share something with you from Psalm chapter three. David writes,
But You, O Lord, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
I cried to the Lord with my voice,
And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah
I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me all around.
We live in a time when a lot of people I know struggle with fear and anxiety. Some fear disease. Others fear the Government response to it. Some are fearful of their fellow Americans. Other’s are fearful that the Government is stoking that fear.
And so many are afraid of what might happen next. Will economic hardship fall on us? Will we be challenged with job loss? Will we lose our freedoms?
Others fear things closer to home. What if I can’t change? What if my marriage has stalled and we can restart it? What if my kids get exposed to something that wrecks their lives? Why can’t I find joy in my faith? Is this really all there is?
I know there have been times in my life where I've struggled with fear and with anxiety. In my life, the years 2017-2019 were plagued with it! And, at the same time, God was doing an incredible work. He was walking with me and teaching me some secrets.
One of those secrets was this: We need to understand the nature and the origin of our feelings. Our feelings, very often are the product of our focus. And when we focus on on things that we can see with our eyes, we often are driven by fear and anxiety.
But in this Psalm, David gives us a secret. He says our focus needs to be on the Lord on who He is on who He is for us.
The Lord promises to be our shield. He promises to be our refuge. And when we have our focus on Him, we will walk in fearless faith.
Today, I just want you to know God is for you. He loves you. He wants to be a refuge for you.
If you're dealing with fear and anxiety, then then the only antidote that I've ever found to fear and anxiety is the presence of the Father.
Seek His face today. Spend time declaring the truth of who He is for you. He is for you. He loves you, and He will be your protector.
When when we begin to operate in that faith mindset rather than fear mindset, then we find ourselves in a place of great confidence.
